"What an insane bite! I put out a lure that I’ve drug over a thousand miles and never even had a short bite on. We drug it way closer to the boat then I have ever drug a lure before. Every minute or so the whole lure would come rocketing out of the water and track back perfectly, leaving a smoke trail of bubbles behind it. I knew something was gonna happen. Of course one by one, the clients in the boat asked what the heck I thought I was gonna catch going 20mph and all gave similar looks when I said wahoos! 15 miles from the inlet, it all happened, got 'em on.
He dumped a lot of line on that first run, he was heading north! Probably a solid 150-200 yards, but he was up on the surface for the whole run so he had the line cutting the water leaving a rooster tail behind him! I knew it was him!! About 15 minutes later the trolling lead was coming out of the water and the real fun began! I started making my wraps and wiring him in and at about the time I got to lock eyes with him.. he decided he was not done.
We fed him line back til we came tight to the lead on the rod again and then the scary part started. He creeped about 75 ft of line back off the reel and just laid there for a solid 10-15 minutes. This fish would not budge! Half a crank at a time and another 20 minutes later we got the lead back to the rod tip. He was whooped. I make my wraps and wire him in and ole Captain Timmy Garrett comes in behind me and strokes him! Lights out! We got a second gaf in him and rolled him in the boat. What a day!"
