Florida’s General Spring Turkey Season: A Hunter’s Highlight

Florida’s general spring turkey season is a much-anticipated time for hunters across the Sunshine State, offering the chance to pursue the wild Osceola and eastern turkeys in their natural habitats. Known for its challenging yet rewarding hunts, the spring season draws hunters from all over the country, eager to test their skills against these elusive birds.

The season typically begins in early March in South Florida and mid-March in the rest of the state, extending into April. Florida is unique in that it’s home to the Osceola turkey, a subspecies found only in the state’s peninsula. This makes the spring season particularly special for those aiming to complete a Grand Slam of turkey hunting.

Hunters must possess a valid hunting license and a turkey permit, and they must adhere to state regulations, including bag limits, hunting hours, and the use of legal hunting equipment. Wildlife management areas (WMAs) across the state offer excellent public hunting opportunities, with some requiring special permits or quotas.

Spring turkey hunting in Florida isn’t just about the hunt—it’s about experiencing the state’s natural beauty during one of the most vibrant times of the year. From the oak hammocks of Central Florida to the swamps of the south, this season is a celebration of the state’s unique wildlife and habitats.
