Wrapping Up the Zone D Deer Hunting Season in Florida’s Panhandle

Zone D in Florida’s Panhandle offers some of the state’s most exciting deer hunting opportunities, with its rugged terrain, dense forests, and abundant wildlife. This zone’s general gun season, which extends later than most other parts of the state, concludes on February 23, making it the final chance for hunters to harvest deer this season.

The extended season allows hunters in Zone D to enjoy cooler weather and the late-stage rut, increasing the chances of encountering mature bucks. Popular hunting areas include the Apalachicola National Forest, Blackwater WMA, and Eglin Air Force Base, all of which provide diverse landscapes and opportunities for public land hunting.

Hunters must possess a valid Florida hunting license, a deer permit, and, if hunting on WMAs, a management area permit. Bag limits and antler restrictions vary, with some WMAs offering special regulations to promote sustainable deer populations.

Zone D’s late season also offers a unique hunting atmosphere, with fewer crowds and a more relaxed pace. It’s an excellent opportunity for seasoned hunters and newcomers alike to experience the Panhandle’s natural beauty while honing their skills.
